At the TGR Learning Lab, members do not pass up an opportunity to pursue their passions, no matter the season.
Throughout eight weeks of summer camps, students participated in a variety of engaging opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), college access and career readiness.
In each classroom, students learned skills they never imagined trying before the summer began.
“I did electrical circuitry in the morning and now carpentry in the afternoon,” said Leeah, a high school junior. I can build a house. I’m so happy my mom signed me up to come here.”
That excitement can be felt throughout the building as students bring teamwork, leadership and inspiration to life.
From rising third graders entering the Lab for the first time to college students returning as mentors, we are creating a new cycle of learning and leadership. Students are finding a second home where they can challenge themselves, discover new interests and begin imagining futures that may not have felt possible before.
In addition to summer camps, high school students took advantage of intensives including the newly launched studios and the annual College and Career Bound Academy (CCBA).
Studios are project-based, real-world experiences where high school students build skills and work on projects over the course of a week. Studios covered a variety of topics, including multimedia, golf, carpentry, event coordination, merchandising, food science, drone piloting and 3D printing. By the end of the session, students left with real-world skills and products from a digital portfolio to wooden benches and fidget toys.
During CCBA, rising seniors got a jumpstart on their final year of high school with a fast‑paced week of interactive sessions, new relationships and a college tour.
Whether they are preparing for third grade or their final year of high school, our students spent full days learning, creating and building community. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., they were provided with hands-on instruction, new experiences and meals throughout the day, allowing them to focus fully on what was in front of them.
